On Wednesday, November 2, the Lake Florida Pool Repair and Maintenance Project was introduced to the community at a community meeting held at the Florida Lake Dragon Boat Club.
Ward 70 Councilor Caleb Finn posted an official notice before community members gathered at the scene to be briefed on the project.
The Lake Florida Pool has been closed for a few years due to needed repairs.
The City of Johannesburg (COJ) has provided a budget for the repairs to be carried out and the Department of Sports and Recreation has indicated that it is ready to start the process.
The Johannesburg Social Housing Company (JOSHOCO) is the executing agent and Phunga Consulting Engineers has been appointed as the consultant while Singo Investment has been appointed as the contractor.
Pontsho Motumi, part of the Expanded Public Works Program (EPWP) communications department, confirmed that a public engagement meeting was held in Florida and the CLO advertisement was announced to the public.
Motumi said the contractor plans to start at the site as early as January 2023.
A representative from Phunga Consulting Engineers said the R1.87 million budget is for maintenance which involves construction, electrical, swimming pool and plumbing works.
The contractor told the residents that a minimum of five works, including the CLO and two small, medium and macro enterprises, will be used while an experienced company will be used for the swimming pool.
Finn said the pool is the first priority but the building (changing rooms and toilets) must support the pool.
